Beautiful and delicious purple-red leaves on this variety of Greek Amaranth that comes from our ancestral island of Karpathos where it is known as "Vlita" or "Vleeta." Pick the young leaves when the plant reaches 6-12 inches tall, steam and eat with lemon juice and olive oil. Plants can be harvested multiple times before going to flower. If left to grow the plants that can reach 9 feet tall and produce a stunning and glorious crimson flower. Our favorite type of greens and a very special and unique plant.
PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:
In spring, after the danger of frost:
Plant seeds 1/8 inch depth in full sun, this to 3-5 inches apart . Harvest the greenish-purple leaves when plant is 6-12 inches tall and steam like spinach. Mature plant can reach 9 feet in height with a large and glorious crimson red flower that produces a large quantity of seeds/grain.
